Levi's Surprises & Delights with Cabrio's Pedicabs at Super Bowl 50
Levi's knew that they would need to give the citizens of and visitors to their longtime home something special. Super Bowl 50 -- the first ever Super Bowl in San Francisco -- would take place at their recently named namesake stadium, Levi's Stadium. For the 10 days prior to the event, The Super Bowl Host Committee would host Super Bowl City in downtown San Francisco to celebrate the historic event. Super Bowl City would be free-to-the-public fan village and will “offer a fun – and free – way for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the extravaganza that is the sporting world’s biggest annual event.... and will be designed to showcase the best the Bay Area has to offer.
As the iconic 150-year brand of the City of San Francisco, Levi’s would participate in Super Bowl City by sponsoring a concert stage at Sue Bierman Park complete with daily programing in as well as host an interactive “brand island” in the public space Justin Herman Plaza. Levi’s hoped to tie together these outdoor brand activations with other important locations and events in the City -- Levi’s Corporate Headquarters, Levi’s flagship store at Market & 4th, and the NFL Experience (the NFL's interactive theme park experience hosted at Moscone Center).
Cabrio Taxi’s fleet of beautiful pedicabs and small army of professional pedicab operators were experienced at surprising and delighting passerbyers on behalf of the Levi’s brand. Levi's determined a fully branded pedicab service, complete with collateral distribution, talking points, etc. would be the perfect platform to weave together otherwise disparate locations and events. Moreover, through the legacy 50 Fund, the Super Bowl Host Committee identified “Sustainable Environments” and “Community Investment” as two of three areas of focus for legacy impact of their event and partners. Cabrio Taxi is obviously sustainable but also proudly local, and would exclusively employ Bay Area lifestyle pedicab operators -- for whom these activations impact their livelihoods.
Cabrio Bowls, In Style
Please join us for our annual formal event this Sunday, November 8th, at 8pm at Presidio Bowl.
This year we are putting on a fun activity rather than a "mingle & dance". But we'd still ask that you to show up in formal attire. I saw 3 bow ties on Cabrio riders this Halloween weekend; I interpret this as a collective urge to paint a place with well-dressed peddicabbers.
$20/person will cover your bowling, shoes, and drinks for the evening. As in prior years, Cabrio will pick up the other half of the tab. Pedicabber +1s are welcome and highly encouraged.
Please help us plan by filling out the Formal RSVP. Mimosa and I can do our best to help facilitate transportation to the Presidio. If you're coming from Santa Clara, we can help build in a shower & change of clothes.
This will be a ton of fun, and it's an important tradition. So please join us. Alumni welcome.
Otterly Exciting
Otterly excited to announce another Cabrio partnership with the Aquarium of the Bay. We'll be hanging out (ottering around) the Embarcadero the next few months and look forward to introducing you.

Cabrio and the Cabinet of Curiosities
Cirque du Soleil's Big Top has encamped at San Francisco's ATT Park until January 18, 2015 with their current show, Kurios - Cabinet of Curiosities. With whimsically steampunk aesthetics coupled with spectacular acrobatics, our crew had the privilege of seeing Cirque's final dress rehearsal before the premiere and we were blown away. Critics say that it's the best show the Cirque has performed in years. And we agree.
Kurios-themed pedicabs are currently making up parts of our fleet and we will make a special effort to have these pedicabs available to Kurious guests before shows at:
- 8 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays
- 4:30 and 8 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays
- 1:30 and 5 p.m. Sundays
Look for us between our Ferry Building Pedicab Stand and ATT Park. We can't wait to get you to Le Chapiteau!
Bocce League Champions!
This spring, Cabrio Taxi's pedicab drivers have been competing against neighboring San Francisco-based businesses in the Ferry Bocce league at Justin Herman Plaza in front of San Francisco's iconic Ferry Building. Around 40 teams gathered weekly on the newly revamped bocce courts to try their hand at bocce, and even get some pro tips from Bocce international competitors like Benji Tosi, who has been known to make cameos at the games. Teams play against each other in random order throughout the season, ultimately competing for a spot in the semi-finals to go on for the big wins.
The finals boiled down to one champion team per night, and then finally, a Battle Royale for the League Champions. After a nail biting semi-final (13 - 12!) Team Cabrio pulled out a win of 13 - 10!
Pedicab drivers Paulo Serna (team captain), Ward Davis, April Atencio and Brett Sherman (pictured L to R above) will be back next season for more Bocce on the waterfront.
Coffee Talk With San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee
Mayor Ed Lee recently convened representatives from San Francisco’s three pedicab companies to gain a some perspective about the pedicab business in San Francisco.
The mayor was primarily interested in how pedicabs can be of service to the Embarcadero given the upcoming possibilities the Warriors stadium and other upgrades to the waterfront area. He observed pedicabs moving easily through the streets where cars often cannot.
The meeting took place at Red’s Java House on the Embarcadero; also in attendance were the Executive Director of the Port and a manager of the SFMTA. Topics ranged from more pedicab routes throughout San Francisco, including through Golden Gate Park, and even the possibility of electric assist pedicabs being made legal.
Time will tell what comes to pass, but the overall message was powerful – keeping the city in close touch with pedicab companies is in everyone’s best interest – we can all be of service to each other.
